The screenshot economy

Business coaching sells on revenue figures. The advertising code requires them to be substantiated. Most are not.

How we work

Why there are none on this site

Scroll through business coaching marketing and you will find the same artefact everywhere: a screenshot of a payment dashboard, a revenue figure, a month-on-month graph. It works because it is concrete and aspirational in equal measure. It is also, under the UK advertising code, a claim — and a claim about earnings must be capable of substantiation and must not present an unrepresentative result as though it were typical. Presenting one as typical without evidence is a misleading commercial practice.

The problem is not that nobody ever succeeds. It is that the figures shown are selected precisely because they are exceptional, usually unverifiable, and stripped of the context that would make them meaningful: how long it took, what the business started with, what else was happening in that market. A prospective client comparing two advisers on the basis of screenshots is comparing two marketing decisions rather than two sets of competence.

So there are none here, and the second half of the same honesty is that this activity is unregulated. No licence is required to call yourself a business coach or consultant, no title is protected, no body has assessed anyone. Where an unregulated adviser causes real damage is at the edges — a view on a pension, a reading of a contract, a tax structure suggested in passing. Those need FCA authorisation, a regulated lawyer, or a qualified accountant respectively, and we refer them out rather than offering an opinion in the margins of a coaching conversation.

Our principles

Three beliefs behind the method

No earnings claims

Not substantiable, not published.

Say it is unregulated

Nobody has vetted anyone, including us.

Refer the regulated edges
